EOTD/OOTD- October 31st

Well, Halloween has come and gone. But does this mean I've put away my grease paint for another year? In short: Nope. So don't be surprised if you see something wacky pop up on your dashboard or on your Facebook news feed. I just can't help myself- plus a girl just has to have some fun, right?

I know that his post is a day late- but it's better late than never, right? I had so much fun putting this together, especially since my look was based off of one of my favorite characters from one of my favorite movies/cartoons: Lydia Deetz from 'Beetlejuice'.

Lydia is smart and kooky with a great sense of humor and a kind heart- not to mention AMAZING style!

Here's my interpretation:
This is a horrible picture of me, but it's the only one I had of the outfit. *sighs* I think my husband snapped this right after I had tried to explain what camera angles work best for me- I don't think he got it. Oh well...he's cute. ;)

I couldn't get my bangs into the points like Winona Rider's were in the film because of the way my bangs are cut. I still say I get an 'A' for effort, though.

Face:
  • M.A.C. Studio Fix Fluid in NC15 mixed with White cream makeup, to make my skin even more pale than it already is.
  • Baby Powder and N.Y.C. loose powder in 'Translucent' to set
  • Light/Medium Brown eyeshadow (120 Palette), to contour cheekbones, temples, and jawline
Eyes:
  • UDPP Primer Potion in 'Original'
  • Light Lavender eyeshadow (120 Palette), to cut the crease and map out where the purple eyeshadow will be placed (from the inner corner and all the way around to the outer half of the lower lashline and then filled in
  • 'Sushi Flower' by M.A.C., on the lid
  • Dark Lavender and Purple/Pink (120 Palette) to darken up the purple area
  • 'Strada' by NARS, as a brow bone highlight
  • 'Poison Plum' by Sugarpill, in the upper corner of the eye just under the eyebrow and along the nose- blended out with the other shades of purple
  • Medium Hot Pink (120 Palette) on the lid
  • 'Legend' (matte black) by Tarte for True Blood, drawn in a thin line to separate the pink and the purple.
  • Light/Medium Brow eyeshadow (120 Palette), same shadow as used for the contour, under the eyes to create the illusion of dark circles
  • 'Legend; by TfTB, through the eyebrows
  • Sephora waterproof kohl liner in 'Keep Black', along the upper and lower waterlines and smudged along the lower lash line with 'Legend'
  • 'Extreme Smokey Grey' liquid liner by NYX, thin line along the upper lash line and flicked out slightly
  • Almay One Cat Nourishing Mascara
  • Demi Whispies false eyelashes
Lips:
  • Rimmel Soft Kohl eyeliner in 'Jet Black', on the upper lip
  • 'Viva Glam Cyndi' by M.A.C. on the lover lip

See you soon, my freaky darlings!

Halloween Collab w/ Play Hard, Look Fabulous- Football

It's that wonderful time of year. Football season. Yes, I know what you're thinking: "This is supposed to be a Halloween look, right?". And you would not be incorrect. That's right, it's a double whammy. Even better than that, it's a collaboration with Christa from Play Hard, Look Fabulous

Down here in the Dirty South it's all about College Football, and in Alabama we take our football pretty darn seriously. Lets face it, the state of Alabama has one of the greatest, if not the greatest, rivalries in the nation. Alabama vs. Auburn is a pretty big deal down here, it's been know to split families and friendships- if only for a few months. But it is all in good fun.

When Christa approached me about doing a Halloween collab, I was pretty freaking ecstatic. When she suggested that our first look be football themed, I pretty much jumped for joy. I knew exactly what I was going to do. I'm a pretty big Alabama fan, my first words were even "Roll Tide" (not even joking about that), needless to say there's going to be a lot of Crimson in this look. But, just as a little side note, to all of my friends who are Auburn fans, I'm not trying to slight you guys in the least. Orange and Blue is a color combo that I generally avoid as a rule, not because of Auburn but because I just can't do it- same rule applies to orange and green and green and red. I will probably, eventually, pull the trigger and do an Auburn look just for you guys, just so there's no hard feelings.

So, here's the look(s)!

Oh yeah, did I also mention that this is a two-for-the-price-of-one? Yep. I'm awesome like that.

Eyes:
  • UDPP in 'Sin'
  • 'Love +' by Sugarpill, on the lid and over the crease
  • 'Beautymarked' by M.A.C., on the lid close to the lashline, blended with 'Love +'
  • 'Sushi Flower' by M.A.C., in the crease to blend out the harsh lines of the 'Love +'
  • 'Brulee' by Wet n' Wild, as the brow highlight
  • NYX liquid eyeliner in 'Extreme Smokey Gray'
  • One by One mascara by Maybelline
  • 'Werewolf' by TfTB, brushed through the brows
Face:
  • M.A.C. Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • NYC loose powder in 'Translucent'
  • '16 Rose Coup De Foudre' blush by Bourjois
Lips:
  • 'Milan' lipstick by NYX
  • The lipgloss I used was from Sephora, but I believe that it is discontinued. It's a gray/black gloss with glitter, and is great for darkening your lip color
Eye Black (under eye marks):
  • Rimmel Soft Kohl Eyeliner in 'Jet Black', for the general outline
  • Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner in 'Blackest Black', to fill in the shape
  • 'Legend' eyeshadow by TfTB (matte black) to set

Be sure to check out Christa's look!

Later my freaky darlings!

Halloween Series- Harley Quinn

First up in my solo Halloween Series is one of my all time favorite female villains. Scratch that, she is my favorite. Ladies and Gents, I give you: Harley Quinn.

Once a doctor in Arkham Asylum, Harleen Quinzel became obsessed with her patient, The Joker, under the delusion that he was in love with her just as much as she was in love with him. She quickly became unhinged and re-styled herself as Harley Quinn, the harlequin sidekick of her great love. The pair ran a muck over Gotham City, causing chaos where ever they went and always with demented smiles on their faces. But, the Joker's decline in health has caused Harley to become increasingly unstable. She has become more erratic, more sadistic, and more cruel.

"My love for my Joker was stronger than their madhouse walls. " - Harley Quinn

Needless to say neatness was not on the agenda for this look. I wanted this to the look of a woman who has lost it, so it needed to be quite messy- and a smidge bloody.

Face:
  • White cream makeup all over the face and down the neck. (I purchased it for $1 at Target, it's no the best, but it makes a good start.)
  • NYX Jumbo Pencil in 'Milk' all over face to even out the white tone.
  • Matte White eyeshadow (120 Palette) all over the eyelids and the under eyes
  • Baby Powder to set
  • Rimmel Soft Kohl liner in 'Jet Black' to draw out the rough shape of the domino mask
  • Black grease paint to fill in the mask. I then smudged out the edges with a damp cosmetic sponge, and set it all with a matte black eyeshadow (120 Palette)
  • Red grease paint on my fingertips, and then dragged across my face- bloody fingerprints
  • Rimmel Soft Kohl liner in 'Jet Black' on the upper lip
  • Maybelline lipstick in 'Red Revival' (645) on the lower lip. I then smudged out the corners with my fingertips
  • Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara on the lashes, and smudged around the eye

There y'all have it! To learn more about Harley and her various appearances you can read about it here on the Batman Wiki.

"I want a lawyer! I want a doctor! I want a cheese sandwich!" - Harley Quinn

See you later, my freaky darlings.

Annabel Lee- Edgar Allan Poe Series

If you came up to me randomly on the street and asked me who my favorite poet was, I would immediately, and without an ounce of hesitation, respond: Edgar Allan Poe. Even since I was a little kid I've loved Poe. In 5th grade we were told to memorize a poem and recite it in front of the class, and being the Hermione that I am, I selected 'The Raven', and recited it. The whole thing. Needless to say, I don't think I could repeat that feat as an adult. Why? Because I'm getting old...well, older. But Poe was not just a master poet, but a master storyteller with a great command for tragedy. So, I found it rather fitting to take inspiration for my Halloween Lead Up series from his works, the first of which is Annabel Lee.

The story of Annabel Lee, is a bittersweet one. The narrator tells of the love that he and Annabel Lee shared, and how it was so deep that the angels were jealous and they sent a wind that chilled her to death. But the narrator never lost his love for the beautiful Annabel Lee, and he firmly believed that his love for her was stronger than the grave.

I have always pictured Annabel Lee as a blond, so I ask that you bear with the fact that I am not.
I wanted to try and achieve the look of cold, with a slightly gray pallor to the skin and "frost" tipped eyelashes and eyebrows, not to mention blueish lips.

Products Used:
  • Silver cream makeup all over the face and neck. (You can get this at any Halloween or party supply store. It does has a bit of a shimmer, though.)
  • N.Y.C. Smooth Skin pressed powder in 'Translucent' (use what ever fits your skin tone) pressed heavily all over the skin.
  • All the eyeshadows used were from the BH Cosmetics 120 Eyeshadow Palette (which you can order here). All around the eye socket I applied a light cool toned gray. To give the eyes a more sunken appearance I applied a mushroom brown under my eye and also under the brow bone and down the nose. On my eyelids I applied various shades of gray, from darkest to lightest and creating a gradient effect, over a black kohl pencil. I used a combination of the mushroom brown and the cool toned gray to contour around my temple, cheekbones, and jaw. I used a combination of sky blue and medium blue eyeshadow as a blush.
  • For my lips I puckered them and dabbed NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in 'Milk' all over and blending it out. I added a tiny amount of red lipstick to my cupid's bow and the edge of my lower lip. I then patted a dark blue eyeshadow over the center of my lips.
  • I lined my upper and lower waterlines with Rimmel Soft Kohl eyeliner in 'Jet Black' (this is the same liner I used as a base for the eyeshadows).
  • I curled my lashes and applied Maybelline One By One Mascara
  • I lightly went over my eyebrows and the tips of my upper and lower lashes with NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in 'Milk'.

^o^ ^o^ ^o^

As I was removing the face makeup, I realized that I really quite liked the eye makeup, so I left it. I just added a little bit of a matte gray eyeshadow ('Stake' from TfTB) all over the lid, and blended it all out with a matte tan ('Dusk' from TfTB)- I also reapplied my mascara.

I hope you have enjoyed this look, and I can't wait to get the other looks in this series up. Especially since when this series is finished, then it's on to the Halloween looks.

See you soon my freaky darlings. <3
