EOTD- Simple Winged Liner w/ A Pop Of Color

I know it's been a while. (Gee this sounds familiar...) It's been a little cookoo bananas around her lately, no joke. But, I'm really trying to get back into the groove of it all. Though, I will warn you, I will be MIA in November. Why? Because it's National Novel Writing Month, and I will be locked away in my spare room furiously typing away on a novel. So, wish me luck and pray I don't go nuts! Well, more nuts than I already am. Ha!

I've been on an Agatha Christie's Marple binge here lately (I absolutely adore her books), so it's been me, the couch and Geraldine McEwan for the past few days. Even though the Geraldine McEwan Miss Marple's aren't very true to the books (at all), I absolutely love the way she portrays Miss Marple and the supporting cast and production quality are incredible, so I'll overlook the discrepancies. Anyways, since the majority of the books/episodes take place in the 1940s and 1950s there is an abundance of winged liner and red lips. Needless to say, I love it!

Today, I decided to springboard off of the fabulous makeup and do a winged liner. Now, this isn't a vintage recreation, it's just an "I wanted to play today!" look.

Here we go!

EOTD- St. Patrick's Day

So four days after St. Patrick's day I'm finally doing a post. I honestly meant to have this up on Sunday, but the hubs and I spent the day Spring Cleaning. Fun, fun, fun.

I had an absolute blast this St. Patrick's Day. We went downtown to watch the parade, and then over to a friend's house to hang out, eat, drink and be merry, and then ended the day with a St. Patrick's Day movie classic: 'The Boondock Saints'. Also, I didn't have a hangover! Epic win!

Moving right along...

Face:
  • M.A.C. Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • M.A.C. Prep + Prime Translucent Finishing Powder
  • 'Nerdgasm' blush by Geek Chic Cosmetics
Eyes:
  • UDPP in 'Original'
  • 'Buck' eyeshadow by Urban Decay, in the crease as the transition color
  • 'Inevitable Betrayal' eyeshadow by Geek Chic Cosmetics, all over the lid
  • 'A Very Fine Hat' eyeshadow by Geek Chic Cosmetics, in the crease
  • 'Virgin' eyeshadow by Urban Decay, as the brow bone highlight
  • NYX Studio Liquid Liner in 'Extreme Smokey Gray'
  • Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara
Lips:
  • 'Morange' lipstick by M.A.C.
  • 'Vegas Volt' lipstick by M.A.C.

I also wanted to throw in this picture. I'm very proud to say that I am 25lbs. lighter now than I was last St. Patrick's Day. I've worked very hard, and I'm half way to my ultimate goal. I'm excited that I'm becoming a healthier person, and it feels so damn good! I can't tell y'all how much my self esteem has improved since I've started this journey. Now, I've just gotta keep on truckin'.

EOTD- Early Spring

Today's look is simple and spring-tastic, and, if I'm completely honest, M.A.C.-tastic as well. Yesterday I purchased an empty 15 pan M.A.C. palette and de-potted all of my eyeshadows- the smell of melting plastic made me a smidge loopy for the rest of the afternoon. So, this morning I carted my butt up to the M.A.C. counter, turned in my empty containers, and picked me out some lipstick. Also, I hit up my local CCO (Cosmetic Company Outlet) yesterday and picked up a few M.A.C. things there as well, so they, too, will be making an appearance in this post. This whole spiel was just to say that now that my shadows are in one spot and I can see them and I have new stuff and I wanted to play. You can't blame a girl, right?

Moving on...

Face:
  • Ulta Color Instincts Shade-Adjusting Foundation in 'Light'
  • M.A.C. Prep + Prime Translucent Finishing Powder
  • 'Dirty Plum' blush by M.A.C.
Eyes:
  • UDPP in 'Original'
  • 'Expensive Pink' eyeshadow by M.A.C., all over the lid and slightly above the crease
  • 'Prussian' eyeshadow by M.A.C., in the crease, and along the outer two-thirds of the lower lash line
  • 'Grey/Brown' eyeshadow (nameless eyeshadow from the Colourizations Duo #3) by M.A.C., in the crease to blend out 'Prussian', and also along the outer two-thirds of the lower lash line
  • 'Blue Spruce' eyeshadow by M.A.C., in the outer 'v' only
  • 'Coppering' eyeshadow by M.A.C., in between 'Blue Spruce' and 'Expensive Pink'
  • 'Woodwinked' eyeshadow by M.A.C., in the inner corner and along the inner third of the lower lash line
  • 'Tissueweight' eyeshadow by M.A.C., as the brow bone highlight
  • M.A.C. Technakohl Liner in 'Brown Border'
  • NYX Eyeliner Pencil in 'Velvet', on the bottom waterline
  • M.A.C. Zoom Fast Black Lash mascara
Lips:
  • 'Vegas Volt' lipstick by M.A.C.
  • 'Strage Potion' lipglass by M.A.C.
I said it was going to be M.A.C. heavy.

This isn't my best work by a long shot, but I feel pretty right now, and that's all that really matters.

Also, the Ulta foundation I'm using is new (I got it for free with the Ulta points I earned last quarter. Woot!), so I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Let me know in the comments what you think.

Thanks for reading my loves!

EOTD (2/24/12)- Hello, Sweetheart! feat. Sugarpill

So, last Saturday I posted a low quality cell phone pic on my personal Facebook showing the makeup I was wearing with the promise that better quality pics and a blog post would be up soon. Well, in case you haven't noticed, it's Tuesday night. That counts as soon, right?

Eh. Better late than never.

This look basically stemmed from two thoughts floating in my little brain:
1) I wanted to do ink brows, as it had been a long time since I had done something like that and I finally had a good pink with which to do it.
2) I wanted to play with the other shadows in my Sugarpill Sweetheart Palette.

So here we go!

Face:
  • M.A.C. Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • M.A.C. Prep + Prime Translucent Setting Powder
  • 'Dollipop' by Sugarpill as the blusher
Eyes:
  • UDPP in 'Original'
  • NYX Jumbo Pencil in 'Milk', all over the lid to the brow and blended out
  • 'After Party' by Sugarpill, on the outer 'v' and crease and drawn over towards the nose
  • 'Midori' by Sugarpill, in the inner corner of the lid and just below 'After Party'- drawn towards the outside of the eye
  • 'Dollipop' by Sugarpill, in the center of the lid
  • 'Pretty Violet' Water Proof Liner by NYX, in the waterline and on the lower lash line.
  • 'Poison Plum' by Sugarpill, to set the purple liner
  • 'Dollipop',  on the inner corner of the lower lash line
  • NYX Studio Liquid Liner in 'Extreme Smokey Gray'
  • Pin-Up Tease mascara by NYX
  • 'Dollipop' brushed through the brows along with my usual brow eyeshadows: 'Teddy' by Too Faced and 'Brown Down' by M.A.C.
Lips:
  • 'Rose Garden lipstick by Clinique
  • 'Glam Guava' lipgloss by E.L.F.

EOTD (2/24/12)- "Wearable" Color Block, feat. Sugarpill

On Valentine's Day I placed an order with Sugarpill Cosmetics, since they were having a fabulous 20% off sale for their anniversary. Thursday, my package arrived. The Sweetheart Palette is now in my possession! [insert maniacal makeup junkie giggle here] And, of course, they sent a few freebies as well (one of the many reasons I love indie companies): a glittertastic sticker, I put this one on the back of my Nook case next to the sticker for my husband's band Joanie Hears Voices (shameless plug!); and a sample of their loose pigment 'Lumi', which I have been wanting to try for forever.

So, last night when I was getting ready for synagogue, I decided that I wanted to play with some of my new shadows- which was really a no brainer. Here's where the name of the look comes in as well. I've been wanting to try my hand at color blocking for a while, and I saw my opportunity and took it. I would say that this is a "wearable" version, because if I was going to un-wearable it would probably have yellow on the brow bone and turquoise on the lower lash line. Hmm...I might have to try that sometime soon...

Here's what I came up with:

I know what you're thinking. "You wore that to church?! You, ma'am, are bat crap crazy!" While I may be bat crap crazy, this really isn't all that unusual for me. The people at my congregation have watched me grow up, seen me go through several hair colors, and have seen me come in with makeup crazier than this. In fact, I think this is rather tame. But, hey, they love me and think I'm adorable. ;)

Face:
  • M.A.C. Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • M.A.C. Prep + Prime Translucent Finishing Powder
  • 'Sushi Flower' by M.A.C. as the blusher
Eyes:
  • UDPP in 'Original'
  • NYX Jumbo Pencil in 'Milk', blended all over the lid and up to the brow bone.
  • 'Dollipop' by Sugarpill, drawn out in a slight 'c' shape and blended through the crease and up. I used Scotch tape on the sides of my eyes to get the sharp outer edge
  • 'Flamepoint' by Sugarpill, on the lid
  • 'Tako' by Sugarpill, on the brow bone
  • NYX Studio Liquid Liner  in 'Extreme Black' and 'Extreme Smokey Gray', I started out with the black, but had to finish out with the gray as my black is about dried out. It's a simple winged liner, and I followed the clean edge made with the tape
  • Pin-Up Tease mascara by NYX, on the top lashes
  • Forever Your Curl mascara by Stila, on the bottom lashes
Lips:
  • 'Sublime Culture' lip liner by M.A.C.
  • 'Creme D'Nude' lipstick by M.A.C.
  • 'Glam Guava' lipgloss by E.L.F.
Later my freaky darlings!

EOTD- Stockholm Syndrome

I know that 'Stockholm Syndrome' is probably one of the craziest (no pun intended) names for a makeup look, but, hey, it is what it is. Honestly, I think I got the title because I've been listening to a lot of Muse lately and this song must have been playing in the background while I was slapping my face on. So we're just gonna go with it.

So with this look I really wanted to play with a few NYX items I picked up at Ulta yesterday. I grabbed three of their waterproof eyeliners (two of them are retractable) and their Pin-Up Tease mascara. I won't go into too much detail, especially since I've only tried one of the liners and the mascara, but I promise that there's a review and pics forthcoming.

Let's get to the look, shall we?

Face:
  • M.A.C. Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • M.A.C. Prep + Prime Translucent Setting Powder
  • 'Corail Frission' blush by Sephora
Eyes:
  • UDPP in 'Original'
  • 'Darkhorse' eyeshadow by Urban Decay, all over the lid and up over the
  • 'Hustle' eyeshadow by Urban Decay, over the first eyeshadow as a wash and to blend everything out
  • 'Sin' eyeshadow by Urban Decay, as the brow bone highlight
  • NYX Slide On, Glide On, Stay On & Definitely A Turn On Waterproof Extreme Shine Eye Liner (Yes, that is the full name. Serious business) in 'Pretty Violet', in the waterline and along the lower lash line.
  • 'Poison Plum' eyeshadow by Sugarpill, to set the eyeliner (probably didn't need it, but oh well) and to add some more purple deliciousness
  • Sephora Waterproff Kohl Liner in 'Keep Black', in the upper tightline
  • Pin-Up Tease mascara by NYX
Lips:
  • 'Sublime Culture' lip pencil by M.A.C.
  • 'Creme d'Nude' lipstick by M.A.C.
  • 'Sunset Peach' lipgloss by Revlon
I know I used that last lip color combo in the second Valentine's look I did, but I do really like it and a nude lip just seemed to fit this look.

Since I mentioned Muse, I thought I'd leave off with their song 'Stockholm Syndrome'. It's a great song, and one of my faves.

See you later, my freaky darlings.

EOTD/OOTD- October 31st

Well, Halloween has come and gone. But does this mean I've put away my grease paint for another year? In short: Nope. So don't be surprised if you see something wacky pop up on your dashboard or on your Facebook news feed. I just can't help myself- plus a girl just has to have some fun, right?

I know that his post is a day late- but it's better late than never, right? I had so much fun putting this together, especially since my look was based off of one of my favorite characters from one of my favorite movies/cartoons: Lydia Deetz from 'Beetlejuice'.

Lydia is smart and kooky with a great sense of humor and a kind heart- not to mention AMAZING style!

Here's my interpretation:
This is a horrible picture of me, but it's the only one I had of the outfit. *sighs* I think my husband snapped this right after I had tried to explain what camera angles work best for me- I don't think he got it. Oh well...he's cute. ;)

I couldn't get my bangs into the points like Winona Rider's were in the film because of the way my bangs are cut. I still say I get an 'A' for effort, though.

Face:
  • M.A.C. Studio Fix Fluid in NC15 mixed with White cream makeup, to make my skin even more pale than it already is.
  • Baby Powder and N.Y.C. loose powder in 'Translucent' to set
  • Light/Medium Brown eyeshadow (120 Palette), to contour cheekbones, temples, and jawline
Eyes:
  • UDPP Primer Potion in 'Original'
  • Light Lavender eyeshadow (120 Palette), to cut the crease and map out where the purple eyeshadow will be placed (from the inner corner and all the way around to the outer half of the lower lashline and then filled in
  • 'Sushi Flower' by M.A.C., on the lid
  • Dark Lavender and Purple/Pink (120 Palette) to darken up the purple area
  • 'Strada' by NARS, as a brow bone highlight
  • 'Poison Plum' by Sugarpill, in the upper corner of the eye just under the eyebrow and along the nose- blended out with the other shades of purple
  • Medium Hot Pink (120 Palette) on the lid
  • 'Legend' (matte black) by Tarte for True Blood, drawn in a thin line to separate the pink and the purple.
  • Light/Medium Brow eyeshadow (120 Palette), same shadow as used for the contour, under the eyes to create the illusion of dark circles
  • 'Legend; by TfTB, through the eyebrows
  • Sephora waterproof kohl liner in 'Keep Black', along the upper and lower waterlines and smudged along the lower lash line with 'Legend'
  • 'Extreme Smokey Grey' liquid liner by NYX, thin line along the upper lash line and flicked out slightly
  • Almay One Cat Nourishing Mascara
  • Demi Whispies false eyelashes
Lips:
  • Rimmel Soft Kohl eyeliner in 'Jet Black', on the upper lip
  • 'Viva Glam Cyndi' by M.A.C. on the lover lip

See you soon, my freaky darlings!

EOTD- Natural and Classy

I wanted to get a quick post in before sundown, so here goes it.

This look is super simple and exudes class. The natural colors make it perfect for running to the grocery store, or it can be jazzed up with a red lip for night time.

Eyes:
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original
  • 'Brulee'  eyeshadow by Wet n' Wild (matte skin tone shade), all over the lid and as the brow highlight
  • Brown/Gray eyeshadow from the M.A.C. Colouizations Duo #3 (satin finish), in the crease
  • Sephora Waterproof kohl liner in 'Keep Black', along the upper lash line
  • 'Legend' eyeshadow from the Tarte for True Blood palette (matte black), smudged over the eyeliner and blended into the outer "v".
  • Maybelline One By One Mascara in 'Blackest Black'
  • 'Werewolf'(matte chocolate brown) and a bit of 'Legend' from TfTB palette brushed through the brows.
Face:
  • M.A.C. Studio Fix Fluid in NC15
  • NYC loose powder in 'Translucent'
  • '16 Rose Coup De Foudre' blush by Bourjois (soft pink)
Lips:
  • Revlon ColorBurst lipgloss in 'Papaya'

'Luminous Fairy' EOTD- plus info for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation

Well my darlings, let me just tell you that I am one tired girl. Busy bee doesn't even being to describe me at the moment. But, with luck, everything should be back to some semblance of normalcy by next week. Now let me just say that nothing is wrong, we're just in the process of moving my grandmother, and my grandmother has a lot of stuff that she's accumulated over the years and it all isn't going to fit into a studio apartment. Fun times. But, we have been blessed by her move because she's given us lots of neat things- plus Gran loves Chanel, and she let me have a few items. I feel like such a big girl now. Ha!

Lucky for you guys, I had a free moment and was able to work on the blog. I don't know if you've noticed, but the layout has changed, and I have to say that I'm really liking it. You can never go wrong with black- it's a slimming color and should be a staple in every closet (that might explain why I have so many black tee shirts...). The purple is an added bonus, and it's just plain pretty. And there are bows. I love bows. They make me happy. Only thing missing is a skull or two...

Real quick I wanted to post a look featuring the Tarte for True Blood palette. It's actually based off of one of the face charts that came with the palette, and it's called 'Luminous Fairy'.

Please stay tuned to the end for more information about the banner on the right of the page

Also new to the blog is the banner you see to the right. It's for the S.O.P.H.I.E. Lancaster Foundation. In 2007 Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend were brutally beaten for simply dressing "goth". The teenagers that did it had no reason what so ever, and were actually happy about what they had done. Sophie and her boyfriend were both put into comas due to the injuries they recieved, he pulled through but Sophie did not. She was 20 years old. The Foundation was started by Sophie's mother to educate teens that just because someone dresses or looks different than you do does not mean that they are any less of a person and should be treated with respect. The British makeup company Illamasqua is partnered with the S.O.P.H.I.E. Lancaster foundation, and even put together a tribute film in her memory. You can visit their page here to find out more information about the Foundation, and also about donations.
